About
SMAS Face Lift at Wanna Plastic Surgery
Full–face facial lift, the final destination and the most reliable method of lifting surgery!
After 60s, not only the amount of sagging skin increases, but also the amount of deep tissue sagging increases which may lead the thread lift and mini lift not as effective. In this case, full-face facial lift is the best solution, in which an incision is made from front of the hairline to back of the ears, cut off the retaining ligaments holding the SMAS layer, pull the SMAS layer, and sufficiently remove excessive skin.
Face lift surgery is a highly difficult surgery that requires a deep understanding of facial anatomy related to facial nerves, blood vessels and retaining ligaments.
Wanna Plastic Surgery’s SMAS face lift is performed by surgeons with experiences from university hospital who have deep understanding of facial anatomy, and are able to delicately cut off the retaining ligaments holding the SMAS layer, firmly put the SMAS layer and skin layer, and minimize the scar by suturing just like scar plastic surgery.

Based on the deep understanding of the facial anatomy, the SMAS layer and skin are clearly raised by delicately cutting the retaining ligaments.

We aim for safe surgery by monitoring in real time during surgery, and provide continuous after-care with the mindset of taking responsibility for the rest of your life.
- 5
- Minimize scars
A medical specialist with extensive lifting experience performs the procedure delicately using fine tools and threads to restore the original anatomical structure, resulting in a lifting with minimal scarring.
What is a retaining ligament?
The facial soft tissues are held in their normal anatomical position by a series of four retaining ligaments.
Zygomatic Ligament and Mandibular Ligament
- It is a bone-skin ligament that arises from the periosteum and attaches to the dermis.
Masseter Cutaneous Ligament and Parotid Gland Cutaneous Ligament
- It is a ligament that connects the superficial facial fascia (SMAS) and the deep facial fascia. It does not arise from the periosteum, but rather from relatively fixed facial structures such as the parotid gland and the anterior edge of the masseter muscle.
* When the retaining ligaments become weakened, the soft tissues of the face sag in the elderly, causing various signs of aging to appear.
Why the retaining ligaments need to be cut.
If the retaining ligament that holds the fascia layer below the SMAS layer is not cut, there will be limitations in pulling the skin and fascia layer. Since the retaining ligament plays the role of pulling the pulled up skin and fascia layer back down, in order for the face lift to be effective, the retaining ligaments should be cut.
Conventional Face Lift vs. SMAS Face Lift

Existing Face Lift | SMAS Face Lift | |
Due to small dissection range, and the retaining ligament holding the skin and fascia (SMAS) layer is not clearly cut, there is limitations to the lifting effect with short maintenance time. | effect | By clearly cutting the retaining ligaments that hold the fascia layer under the SMAS layer and exfoliating the fascia layer extensively, the lifting effect is clear and long-lasting. Unlike the standard method, we select the extended SMAS face lift and high SMAS face lift methods depending on the patient’s sagging area and facial structures. |
